“Love-for-Coke-like Love?”
(Dec.11, 2011, 1:00am)
I spell happiness with C-O-K-E
On my way home, from the usual-dinner-at-the-barbecuehan-with-music-team, I thought of something: unconventional thought again! Hahaha (that’s what you get kun maiha tim paghinulat ha jeep)
It all started kasi han naka-feel ak hin hapdos after dinner. Nalipasan hin gutom tas uminom deretso hin coke after 2 ka-subo (yes, it’s bad). I said to myself, “never will I drink Coke ever again” but I knew in my heart that I’d still drink Coke no matter what.
It got me thinking tuloy, “is my love for Coke the same as my love for Jesus?”
Yeah, define super random pero come to think of it, my question’s quite valid.
Then, a lot of questions came to mind:
- Do I still love Jesus with all my heart and soul despite knowing that there are challenges ahead? Do I still continue to praise Him amidst the troubles I’m going through just like the feeling when bisan naghahapdos na tak tiyan I’m still sure I’ll still drink Coke?
- Am I willing to go out of my way, my comfort zone, just to obey Jesus like those times when I go out of my way just to look for a store that sells Coke (bisan harayo, bisan mapaso)?
- Do I make it a point to have my daily fix of Jesus and His word just like my making sure that I always have my daily fix of Coke?
- Am I unsatisfied and thirsting whenever I only have a small dose of Jesus’ word just like my feeling when I only have Coke sakto or 8oz?
- Do I want Jesus more than three times a day just like my craving to have Coke for breakfast, lunch, dinner and in between?
- Do I defend Jesus when people say something bad about Him or when others don’t believe in Him just like the times when I defend Coke from its competitors (bagat binabayaran)?
- Do I rejoice and feel victorious whenever God does something good in my life or in somebody else’s life just like the happiness I feel when Coke comes up with a good campaign and touches a lot of lives?
- Am I willing to share God’s faithfulness and His unfailing love in my life to other people just like the times when I tell people how much happiness Coke brings whenever I drink it?
- Do I feel sad when I know that the presence of God is not in a place just like when I feel sad that a certain establishment offers Pepsi products?
- Am I proud to say that I love Jesus just like my public declaration of how much I love Coke?
A lot of questions can be asked pero 10’s a good number already :)
If this were an exam, pasang-awa la ada ako. Makarawod man hiya aminon pero tuod. Napaisip tuloy ako han How Deep Is Your Love na kanta. Bagat it somehow asks me how much I love Jesus. Because we are living in a world of fools, some profess that they love Jesus and yet fail to live up to it. I came to a point where I asked myself, where do I stand? Of course, the enemy, at the sight of my vulnerability strikes again. It’s telling me that everything’s just superficial and there’s not a hint of genuineness in me. But I was reminded that it will be the Holy Spirit who will attest kun patahap la ini or kun tuod talaga. Tas bagat tigda nagplay ha background an Deeper na kanta. May longing na for more. May eagerness na to be soaked pa in His presence. My feeling of discontent hit ak current state but may thirst for a deeper level of intimacy with Him. As I meditate on His word day and night, as I continue to seek Him, I know He will take me deeper than I’ve been before. My relationship with Him will be more than my relationship with Coke.
Tapos ini liwat nga question nak naisip:
- Does Coke love me back as much as God loves me?
No, it doesn’t. it’s only good until the last drop. But God’s love? It’s overflowing, more than you could ever ask for. More than what you deserve. More than the love you will ever receive from people and material things combined.
Question na naman:
Aiming for a Love-for-Coke-like love? God’s love is readily available for you. waray pa bayad, you just have to claim it :)
HAPPY NEW YEAR! :)))
A true understanding of your daily dependence on God’s mercy causes you to be humble toward God and others.
We will forgive others — whether they deserve it or not — to show our gratitude to God. After all, that’s what He did for us.
If we are truly broken and humbled by our own sinfulness, we will not focus on the sins of others. Rather, we will be motivated to humbly serve them.
If we grasp the enormity of God’s extravagant grace toward us, we will gladly give generously to others.
